Cat. #0013232022: BUDDY EBSEN

Definitive 8x10-inch black and white portrait as Jed Clampett on "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962-1971), boldly signed in black felt-tip marker around the late 1980s. In good condition. Goofy-looking, rubber-limbed character actor Buddy Ebsen began his career as part of a vaudeville act with his sister Vilma Ebsen, with whom he also appeared in several Eleanor Powell pictures of the 1930s. He went on to appear in other musicals like Captain January (1936), opposite Shirley Temple, and The Girl of the Golden West and My Lucky Star, both in 1938. The following year, he was famously slated to play the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz (1939), but reacted badly to the silver make-up and was forced to cede the role to Jack Haley. Thereafter, he all but abandoned Hollywood, in favor of the stage, but was lured back in 1955, after he was hand-selected to star in Disney's Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier. His other memorable credits include Northwest Passage (1958), an episode of "The Twilight Zone" entitled "The Prime Mover" (1961), Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962-1971), and the detective series "Barnaby Jones" (1963-1970).
